Got Questions about Downloading and Extracting?
This is for XP users, as it uses the extraction wizard in Windows Explorer / My computer
For Skins:
On the webpage, click on the skin you want to download:
Open it
Once the file has finished downloading, hit open. Then, click the button marked “extract all files” as shown below:

Press the next once, so that you get to this screen:
![]() |
![]() |
You need to change the path where the files are extracted. To do this, copy this line “C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Skins” (without the quotes), and paste it (ctrl + v) into that box, circled in the diagram.
Press next, then finish.
If you have followed the tutorial this far, that your skins should now show up in the game.
Notes:
Some sites put their skins into folders, so that when you extract them, there is a subfolder inside the skins folder. You need to move these files out, so that they are loose inside the skins folder.
If a skin is not showing up in your game, run filecop, for which a link can be found on the menu page of this site.
