Replacing A Lot!

Is entering a house or community lot making your game crash? When all else fails, you can replace the house with an empty lot.

This is also a fix for missing portals and/or mailboxes...

Warning: Using this will delete the current lot in your game! You cannot retrieve this lot once it is written over!

Make sure you know the lot number of the house that is making your game crash.
To replace the lot go into your C:/ProgramFiles/Maxis/TheSims/TemplateUserdata/houses folder. In the template userdata folder, the file that corresponds to the house that is crashing should be a "House##.iff" file. The "##" part of the filename is the lot number for the house.
Right click on that file and select Copy. Now go into the Userdata folder for the neighborhood the lot is in, usually "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\UserData\Houses"
Userdata is neighbourhood 1, Userdata2 is neighbourhood 2 and so on. Right click on the Houses folder and select Paste.
It will ask if you want to overwrite the existing file, say YES.
Now restart your game. The new house/lot should be there. your family will be in a deleted state, their face icons will be on the screen but have little red circles on them. Click each face icon and they will show up back on the lot. Now you have to rebuild the house they were in, but you should have a portal and mailbox now...Good luck!
