She will barter a four-leaf clover for a jar of honey.

He will barter a rubber chicken for elderberry nectar.

Some items are acquired by doing quests for the vendors. It is totally random which vendor gives you which item. I’ve gotten every item from every vendor, so it really doesn’t matter that much who you quest for, though it has been proven now that certain items are supposed to come from certain vendors! Get Torkle’s patch at http://home.woh.rr.com/torkle/ to avoid some of the randomness with this.

Some items you can acquire for yourself by growing, buying MagicTown or OldTown, or from a pet dragon…
Buy your sugar, baking mix, grapes and elderberries in MagicTown, unless you set up a place for this in OldTown.
Buy carrots in OldTown
Make your own golden thread using the spinning wheel.
Harvest beeswax and honey from the beehive.
Instead of buying you CAN harvest grapes, elderberries and carrots from your garden… Grapes and elderberries grow in the “as the plot thickens” garden plot while carrots grow in “victory garden” plots.
You can harvest toadstools if you sit on the toadstool chairs often enough.
